For effective visual categorisation of the weapons Im looking at, I would need icons that summarise the usage and function of the weapons.
I was going to produce a load more, but I got hooked instantly after doing an Oblivion style backdrop behind one of the logos, which is essentially just a starburst like effect which offers more impact and the promise of aesthetic brilliance. So I applied that shape to all of the various icons and I thought it fit the brief well.
The reasons behind the choice of images for each category:
- Biological - Test tube, used because most of the effects caused are either toxic, or the result of the mixing of various biological elements to inflict damage on an attacker based on the biological structure of said animal.
- Blades - Used a sword since it is unsurprisingly the most common bladed weapon used and the domesticated knife's aged counterpart.
- Energy - Magnet, the use of a rotating magnetic field is essential for almost any kind of hypothetical energy weapon, be it virtual or a directed particle beam, they would NEED to have a magnet or some form of magnet induced rotary propulsion system.
- Explosives - Nuke/Bomb - To me it says nuke to others it simply says bomb, but this was the easiest icon to do since it entailed a very simple piece of visual communication.
- Firearms - Cartridges, the ammunition that is used widely and found exclusively in weapons that fire metal based projectiles to cause tissue damage.
- Improvised - Toilet roll, this choice was mainly to engage the reader and to challenge peoples perceptions of what is and what is not a weapon. Plus the toilet roll is a reference to Conker's Bad Fur Day, where a giant toilet demon must be filled up with toilet roll in order for him to be defeated.
